Presented by: Dr Claudio Gheller (CINECA)
CINECA, Bologna, Italy
Dr Claudio Gheller introduces and describes the solutions adopted in a collaboration between CINECA and the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), in order to develop a new generation of graphic software tools. These tools are designed to overcome the limits and the barriers of traditional software by exploiting the latest technological opportunities.
The main challenges and objectives are the following:
Date: 12th May 2009
Time: 2:00 to 3:00
Location: HP Seminar Room (NZi3 Building, Christchurch)
or
Online: via the KAREN videoconferencing bridge.
Please note, directions and videoconference information will be sent by email to registered participants.
If you would like to reserve a place these workshops, or have any questions please contact Lisa-Marie by email or by phone (03 364 2987 xt 4895).
This free half day seminar will give you insights into the processes, opportunities and challenges of selling to government.
The procurement process

What’s being done to assist SMEs
The government is keen to grow the New Zealand economy and ICT is seen as a key component. Find out about initiatives being approved that will make it easier and less expensive for local companies to bid.
Forum discussion
Your chance to discuss the issues that concern you in an open forum. CIOs and procurement specialists will answer your questions and address the issues that you decide on.
Guest speakers include two departmental CIOs, procurement specialists and Policy Advisors and time for networking with the guest speakers will be available afterwards.
Date: 15th May 2009
Time: 9:00 to 12:30
Location: HP Seminar Room, NZi3 Building, Christchurch
Please note, directions and programmes will be sent by email to registered participants.
If you would like to reserve a place these workshops, or have any questions please contact David Sheppard at the Industry Capability Network (ICN) by email or by phone (027 4762 867).
Richard Wien, an experienced innovation manager from New York, is presenting a series of two workshops looking at how to successfully write and file patents in the US thereby minimising the time and cost.
Richard is currently working as a New Business Development Consultant in the US, is actively involved as a board member in two NZ medical technology start-up companies and is also involved in founding a solar energy company.
19th March -
Creating an IP strategy
Whether a start-up, multinational corporation or university, an Intellectual Property Strategy must be developed to maximise return, develop focus and utilise finite resources.
20th March - Inventor's Guide to writing patents
In the second of the series, Richard will focus on tips for how to get started writing patents, interacting with experts and working with attorneys to produce quality patents. This will include a process to determine whether a patent is warranted, how to get started and tips on shortening the total process time.
Both workshops will be held in the new NZi3 Building on the UC Campus:
Time: 2:00 to 3:30
Location: NZi3 Seminar Room
Please note, more information on both workshops will be posted here soon. Directions and programmes will be sent by email to registered participants.

Computer vision and image processing are becoming more and more prevalent in products and engineering systems. This short course series introduces the concept and basics from a medical standpoint, focussing on the applications and fundamental algorithms and methods used in the industry today. It also introduces emerging variational methods. The methods and material presented are thus a good overall introduction to the field and are readily generalised to other problems across engineering for those in different areas.
This short seminar series will provide a significant introduction to the methods and capabilities in this area, rather than as an extension for existing experts in the field. The content will be quite general to other application areas, and will appeal to those from other engineering areas who are considering computer vision, as well as to those who merely want to learn more about this aspect of medical imaging.
